Fumin Road Apartment In this project, the new architecture divides space in every direction. Each division, or act of partitioning, creates a new program. Each side of the partition contains a different program and has a different character. The project resonates with Shanghai’s post-1990s real estate boom which witnessed a wave of re-partitioning in pre-1949 apartments and houses. Reconfigured for a single occupant dweller, it is an intervention which forces the new inhabitant to confront the histories of the partition as well as to create and participate in new ones simply by his daily habitation.
