The Tri-Fork Condominiums look at opportunistically reprogramming an indispensable element of high-rise living - the core. In this project, a spiraling core of different programmatic elements taken from outside of the apartment building weaves through the dwelling units. This core thus facilitates new spatial and programmatic relationships between the patches of landscape, circulation, recreation and the three types of apartment units. The new architecture speaks to the construction of high-rise apartments in China in the last decade as a consequence of the nation’s rising economic status and accelerated urban lifestyles. These lifestyles reflect the one-child-per-family structure, the rapidly expanding mobile metropolitan population, and the global outlook and evolving habits of the new rich.
